Advice/grant assistance with replacing boiler
Hi all,
Our 20 year old boiler appears to have stopped working. It's probably time for a new one and we've had some discussions about switching to a combi but, from what I've read (and since we already have a hot water tank etc), we may as well stick with our current system type since we're a family of 4 and combis may suit a smaller household?
What are people's view on this?
Also, if we have to replace the boiler, how likely is it that we would qualify for a grant?
The boiler is quite old so I assume it wouldn't be rated very efficient and the household contains myself (earning over 40k), my partner (not earning/not claiming) and two children under 5 (in receipt of child benefit for both).
Does that sound like qualification criteria?
Thanks for any help.

Whats's actually wrong with it? Make and model? Just because it's 20 years old doesn't mean it's unseviceable. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Good point.
It's a Baxi Solo 2 RS.
We have it serviced every year by someone we know and it has been mentioned on the last couple of visits that it might be a good idea to think about replacing it. There was something specific mentioned about the combustion chamber which is supposedly unservicable but I don't recall what.
Additional to this, we are having an extension and it was considered, while the building work is going on, to go the whole hog and replace the boiler with a combi and move the boiler into the loft but that means a loft ladder/boarding/removal of the loft tanks etc all of which is expensive.
At my mum and dad's old house, the boiler was probably about 25-30 years old and still going but they don't make things like they used to...
Are you familiar with this boiler type?0
