it is defiantly an old debt i had forgotten about had no idea i owed the money,

sour crates does tat mean i wont have to pa the debt back ???

also can i get the default removed???

Are you sure the debt originates from 2008 ?

Just seems strange they have waited this length of time to issue a default.

More information on the debt itself is needed before I could say for sure.

    Oops editing this post...

Phone British Gas. Is there a chance due to a system glitch your account got reactivated somehow? Give them a ring tomorrow to get the details and take it from there. If a mistake, they will remove the default.

sour crates it defiantly is from 2008 i haven't been a british gas customer since then when i moved into my property in 2008 they supplied the electric and i left them within 2 months of moving in and have never been a customer since
dieselv2 i don't see how an account would be reactivated 9 years later? its potential that i may owe the money i cant remember that far back it may have slipped my mind to pay the bill i never received any information or reminders or bills or debt collection letters, i haven't moved since then so for it to state gone away.... I'm confused. am i still liable for this debt 9 years later? i have read posts saying debt is wiped if it goes over a certain length of time so surely they cant default this 9 years on or expect me to pay the debt ?

Limitations act 1980 any debt not paid or acknowledged in writing for any period of six years or more, will most likely be statute barred.

It will tell you on your file who owns the debt, is anyone writing to you demanding payment ?

Please don't include personal information in your posts, I have removed your name and address.

So they have essentially registered a new default on a 9 year old debt then yes ?
Written complaint is the best way to start tackling this, see what they have to say about it.

  • ouch i didnt realise i had included my name and address on this i just copied and pasted from my file really sorry

i have just come off the phone with british gas on there system i have a profile but no account so ii have been advised to email there customer service this debt is defiantly more than 7 years old i haven't been a british gas customer since 2008 possibly middle of 2009 at the latest, I was under the impression that a debt collection agency cant file for a default notice on a debt that is this old? or am i wrong in thinking this?

Well they are the original creditor not a debt collection agency, however it does go against guidelines and regulation to default an account so late.

A written complaint is always the best way to deal with these matters.
