Since the New Year I'm been working 20hrs a week for minimum wages which is just over £400 a month, which I just manage to get by on.
However, I don't seem to have a set pay date, I'm also paid by cheque which adds on about 5days clearing time, so far when I GET paid (this doesn't include clearing time) has ranged from the 19th of the month to 7 or 8 days later.
I need to get this sorted but I just can't bring myself to speak to anyone about it and has the peope who deal with the accounts here are hardly ever in the best opition is to leave a note asking that a set day/date for me to be paid on is made, but WHAT DO I SAY? I need it to be friendly, so as not to get anyone's backs up, but I just can't seem to get anything down on paper.

Hi
This isn't an acceptable situation, can you speak to your boss and ask about it, just say that your struggling with keeping track of your DD's and need to know what day is payday and is there any chance of it being paid to your bank? I assume its a small company but even so with most business banks they have online banking facilities which is how we pay our staff.
Good luck0 -
Thanks misspoppyA Life Less Simple - one day I'll get there0

Do you have an employment contract? By law an employer must provide an employee with their employment terms, (known as a "statement of terms") within 2 months of the employee's start date. Amongst other things it should state when you should get paid.0
-
Also any reasonable employer should be able to offer a BACs payment option, it doesnt cost them much to add a mandate, and it will be negligible with the costs they concur with paying suppliers etc.0

I've never had anything like a statement of terms, it's a really mess here and I looking for something else.
My manager left last week, they'd given 8 weeks notices but the staff were only told the week before they left and only because someone from another company had let it slip to a member of staff.
I know I need to get it sort and I'm being really badly treated but I just don't have the guts to get it sorted.
Thanks for all the support!A Life Less Simple - one day I'll get there0 -
Hi Tabby Kitten
I would suggest writing something like the following (change it however you like):
Dear xxxx
I am writing to request that you pay me on the same day each month.
As I have payments going out on fixed dates, I need a regular payday so that I can manage my finances.
The current variable pay date is causing me headaches, and I would therefore be grateful if you could set up a regular payment each month. I understand that this is easy to do via BACS transfer.

Do you have a personnel contact that you can speak to?0

If you havn't got a written statement, you really need to take this up with your employer and ask for one. Is there a colleague who can help you or union rep? If not and you want further advice, try the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service help line on 08457 47 47 47. Also have a look at
