Even with paypal its not an extended warranty. If it fails months down the line your going to rely on the seller mostly.

Are they a proper shop with a proper landline and proper email address not a throwaway mobile and email?

Bought on very just last year so possibly bought on credit and sold before paying?

It has Apple warranty until Oct 2017 as it was only bought in Oct 2016. And you deal directly with Apple if that is the case. I could also buy AppleCare which would extend that warranty another 2 years. I wouldn't buy a MacBook second hand unless it had at least some Apple warranty remaining.

It doesn't seem to be a shop, but just a bloke selling some stuff. Although this is not the first computer he's sold on eBay recently so this is clearly not just him selling his laptop.

The credit thing is very interesting. I asked about that in an email last night, and this morning the listing has ended. Perhaps somebody bought it but perhaps he just closed it. I don't know how to find that out.

So it's gone now. Oh well.

Will it be warranted without proof of purchase? What if it turns out not to be a UK machine? Will the Check the OP did show that?

One of the photos shows it is a UK machine. Or at least should be. If it's not, then I'll send it back.

I'm willing to take a risk with these sort of things as long as I can get my money back if it's not what it says it is. I'm just trying to understand what kind of checks I need to do so I can make sure I get a refund if I am scammed.

If it develops problems subsequently, after the 3 month period?

What is this three month period you mention? The warranty is until Oct 2017 so longer than three months.
