Right to Buy and Help to Buy

I am currently in the process of being put on my parents tenancy, after 3-5 years I understand I will be eligible for a 35% discount on the house if I were to buy, now would i be able to open a Help to Buy savings account now and after 5 years claim the free £3000 to go towards buying the house with the 35% discount? this seems like too good of a deal to be true.

Yes you can combine HTB ISA with RTB.
  • Yep, we are in the ridiculous position that the state will literally give away its most valuable assets rather than keep them for future generations. I think it's the only way the blue party think they can get working class votes. But yes, you can.

Why is everyone so mad? oh because this wasn't around when you were buying your house and you feel bitter for those that use it? anyway thanks for the answer, I have no use for this forum now.

This has been around for well over 30 years, so it isn't that. It's probably more that people pay tax on the assumption that it goes to help the worst off in society, not to help inflate a property bubble and deprive the most vulnerable of a roof over their heads.

Probably more to do with the fact it's a crap scheme that is being royally exploited and stops councils building new houses.

What happens to your parents when you buy btw ? Surely if it's a joint tenancy they wouldn't be able to move into a council flat again ?

Don't even bother. You'll get reported and then banned. In fact you probably already have been. Sigh.

Can just one tenant buy the house? Doesn't it have to be bought by all the named tenants?

Not sure, but I'm sure the permission of the other tenants would have to be given
