Applying for tax credits

I'm applying for tax credits and had to call them the other day to ask what to do in the absence of my partners p60. I was advised to guess at the amount they earned in the last tax year. So do I put down what they earns before tax or after tax? Thanks.

Do you not have payslips? Or have you tried calling the tax office for the information?

I don't think she'all have many of her payslips. Also can I claim for tax credits if we are both getting childcare vouchers? Looking online was very confusing.

So has she tried the tax office?

Tax credits isn't just for childcare, that's just one part of it.

You cannot claim childcare help for the amount already covered by vouchers. It if you have any costs over the vouchers you can claim help for that.

If you want to give more details it might be easier to help.

I called the tax credits people and was advised just to guess my wife's earnings. Her salary is 25k and she works full time. I was a full time student last year up until August, I then got a job that paid 24,700k per annum, that increased in October to £29800, and has gone down to £23,100 since this month.

I have no idea what I'm eligible to claim. At the moment we both claim £243 per month in childcare vouchers as we have 2 kids under 3 who are in full time nursery.

entitlement tables can be found here (as a rough guide)
    https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/tax-credits-entitlement-tables-working-at-least-16-hours-and-paying-childcare/tax-credits-entitlement-tables-working-at-least-16-hours-and-paying-childcare
You will need to work out your full income for the tax year 15/16 and 16/17
(they will initially calculate of 15/16 but as your income will have increased by over £2.5k they will recalculate based on your estimate for 16/17 and deduct £2.5k from the total

Sorry I'm not asking if you've called tax credits, I know you've done that.

I'm suggesting she calls the tax office to obtain her pay details for 2015/16. She shouldn't need to guess, she can find out for sure which she'll need to do at some point anyway for the renewal.

Does the childcare vouchers cover your full childcare?

Oh, okay...thought they were all the same place, sorry. No, our monthly childcare costs £1417 less the childcare vouchers.

Okay so on the form you put the amount not covered by the vouchers.
