first credit card limit !

Hey there, I'm new to all this money malarky but am thinking of getting a credit card to make some large payments. I haven't had a credit card before so am unsure how they work but what is likelyt to be the credit limit on a new credit card? I'll be needing to get access to around £8,000 so it's no use if a credit card…

I would say your best chance of getting a limit that high might be with your bank, as they (or at least when i was with Lloyds TSB) could see my income, and when i applied for my CC with them gave me a £7750.

But with you having no credit history i would say you are likely to get a smaller limit. You might also never get a limit of 8K or higher if your income is low, as they take income into account when you apply.
