Washing Machine question

After every wash my washing machine fabric conditioner compartment fills up with water.

I've taken out the tray and cleaned it, cleaned the space that the tray fits into and cleaned the hole with a small wire brush and it's still happening. Just wondered if anyone has any ideas?

Comments

  • My first step would be to confirm that the washer is totally level.
If it was tilted even a tiny bit forward then the water that is pumped into the conditioner compartment may not be fully draining out.

Level has no effect of conditioner dispensing... it works by siphonage.

You should be able to take apart the two parts of the syphon assembly and clean - just doing the 'hole' isn't enough, you also need to do the syphon cavity too.

If I find a picture, I'll post it.

    Cheers

Edit: it may or may not looks similar to this - entirely dependant on the make and model of machine, but it demonstrates the syphon can be disassembled.

That photo also demonstrates why you need to disassemble it. After a few months, the whole lot can go horribly mouldy.

I always find a little bit of water left in mine, which I mop up with kichen paper. But if it doesn't siphon at all, it needs a really good clean out.

I also found that switching to a runnier fabric conditioner helps. I'm currently using Ecover. Some are too thick and gloopy to siphon through the narrow tube.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

    Hmm off to check mine.

Damn fine post thank you, ours is fairly new and is an improved design, but still a few spots of mould. 2 minutes and its all clean and fresh. There was a thread the other day saying something like "What else haven't I cleaned", your post could very easily be copied into that thread as a handy tip.

    Thanks again.

  • Thanks very much for your help. That was a very detailed response. My syphon looks very similar to the one in the photo.
