Travel Insurance - relative with terminal illness

Hope for some advice. I am off to Vegas for 5 days in March. I am currently caring for my terminally ill father, currently he is doing well and in hoping that come March he will be fine. After calling a few insurance companies I can't get covered because I know he is terminally ill, I didn't when I paid the deposit and i was told by one company I should have got travel insurance before he was diagnosed and before I knew about the holiday. A crystal ball would also have been useful. If dad takes a turn for the worst I will loose 2k - has anyone been in a similar situation or can offer any advice? I am happy to pay a reasonable amount for the insurance I just want to know I'm covered.

When you paid the deposit was the time to take out insurance.0

I'm sorry to hear your news but no-one is likely to cover you now for your dad taking a turn for the worse. The chances of paying out are just too high.
For future reference, it is best to take out insurance at the time you book to cover any unforeseen eventuality. You may need to take out insurance which excludes your dad's illness, then take the hit if he does deteriorate. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0
