Oh dear. I finally had the podiatry appointment I was referred for in early July. Apparently it is permanent damage to my foot as an open ended joint has dislocated (so you can't splint it). I've got some orthotics to try and fingers crossed I can get on with them. Otherwise there is a surgical option that is not guaranteed to be successful. It makes me feel a bit sad really.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Going to try the orthotics on a dog walk this morning. Not sure what happened to the forecast November heat wave for this part of the country but it is nowhere to be seen round here. Weather is definitely meh, along with my mood, which is mostly the time of year.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Foot was a bit achy on my return from walk but not unacceptably so. I am hoping it is just a case of getting used to it.
As I've been reading round diaries and entries on various challenges it has really struck me how many people on these forums have started to really use the lockdown period as an an opportunity to reset their finances and change what they spend their money on. I'm sat here wondering how our service based economy is going to survive if this attitude prevails and where the big sources of employment are going to be.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

SL, very sorry to hear about your foot - the walk doesn't sound like it was *too* bad, but it's horrible when you've always been healthy to run smack into this sort of thing. Hope your dog walking experience has helped.
As for the new economy ... sigh ... I do agree with a reset of finances - ecologically as well as in other ways. One of the only sensible sentences I've ever heard Johnson say was that we don't have a domestic diagnostic industry, and we need one. I think the jobs associated with the long term industries we need - diagnostic, PPE manufacturing etc, plus a **genuine** green reset, not the minimalist stuff they're parading, might really take us forward. Have you had any other thoughts on it?2023: the year I get to buy a car4 -
Well I placed my first proper click and collect supermarket order and DH will go and collect it this morning at ten. Obviously there are some things missing and a few things not on the shop's internet offering. We have had a major spike of the virus in the town where the SM is and we just feel we would rather not go in so there we are. The MP was on the radio yesterday saying only two thirds of the cases are related to the care-homes (one has been on national news) which means one third is down to blasé or thoughtless spread. I have noticed there are a number of denials on the FB pages - I just wonder what else they read and believe. What is the old Darwinian thing? Natural Selection - or self limiting gene-pool!
In more cheerful things my undercoat primer that was not in stock has been despatched, and DH not only washed the kitchen ceiling with sugar soap, he painted the bit where the wall cupboards need to be - it was a tin I picked up cheap and not brilliant white, but somehow the pale mint green colour goes with other things (jade white, I think).
And as I sit here typing, Mum's little helper (stealth cat) is sat just in front of the keyboard ("helping") she watches me type, follows the curser or emerging words, occasionally patting, then slumps down with her rear end overhanging my keyboard! Negotiations are underway.
In personal money things we are in the dead-zone of the month, but an unexpected £62 has appeared - it turns out DS finally found the VED refund cheque he had forgotten to bank for us (and it was so long ago we had forgotten it!).Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

The wall cupboards are up - one is filled and I have been moving stuff around to achieve my original aim of ingredients near mixer - Of course it has not gone to plan and now it seems the mixer is moving to the opposite work-top (doh!)
. I love the idea of clear surfaces but there are two hopes of that - "Bob" and "no"!
- I'm sure things will move again.
My undercoat primer has arrived so I will start painting again. DH has conceded he likes the completed wall cupboards!! He will paint the ceiling today too - it's not bright white, it is a very pale green (or blue) the colour is very pale and the name is jade but it looks minty to me.
My click and collect tried to substitute one major chocolate brand for the other (nooo! - too much palm sugar since Hersheys bought it)), they had no cat litter and sent sad broccoli (with bits that had obviously gone bad picked out). The packaging of the cooking chocolate was compromised but we have accepted it as we will be cooking with it. It's why I shop myself normally. I won't be doing it regularly.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

I know what you mean about the desire for kitchen surfaces SL, its also between bob hope & no hope in my kitchen, & I long for about double the number of sockets & wish the previous owners had run power to the island in my kitchen
great news that you're progressing with the kitchen cupboards- Mortgage: 1st one down, 2nd also busted

I've been looking at converting double power points into tripples or quads where the bit in the wall is double... Like theseSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

If only my whole kitchen wasn't done in brushed metal face places for all the sockets & switches
(not my choice)
If i'm still here by the time I need to redo the kitchen floor (travertine looks lovely but doesn't wear that well) i'll probably chase a run out so I can bring power to the island and maybe add extra sockets in at several points around the wall.
The layout has perplexed me since I moved in, the switch for the dishwasher is 3 base units away from it & the switch for the under unit lights is right by the dishwasher but wedged right in the corner :?- Mortgage: 1st one down, 2nd also busted
