Trying to choose between these. Does anyone have any direct experience of both? I'm confused about the underwriters as it seem So tesco underwrite themselves and Zenith are possibly also an underwriter(??).
Both have awful reviews but if I went by those then we'd simply never get any insurance.

Both Tesco and Zenith are insurers in their own right, you're correct there.
Reviews aside (as you've pointed out they both have awful reps) have you checked defaqto for the star rating each has been given?
And then perhaps the Which? ratings?
Someone else may come along with first hand experience of one or the other, in the mean time defaqto can help you compare cover and which? customer satisfaction scores.0 -
Thanks - not familiar with defaqto! Will have a look.0

defaqto only gives a rating on how comprehensive the cover is on paper; it doesn't take into account customer service or claims experience at all.
I agree nearly all insurers look awful on reviews; just been through that excercise myself. Even ones that apparently have a reasonable rating can have a huge thread of disgruntled customers on here or other chat sites. Seems like they all need a good kick up the backside!0
