Funeral payment

Options
Hi,
Can anyone tell me how much someone will get towards a funeral while on benefits? This person doesn' t work and probably won't be able to in the future. They are approx in their 50's if that make any difference.
Treat other's how you like to be treated.

Harry born 23/09/2008
New baby grandson, Louie born 28/06/2012,
Proud nanny to two beautiful boys :j
And now I have the joy of having my foster granddaughter becoming my real granddaughter. Can't ask for anything better

UPDATE,
As of today 180919. my granddaughter is now my official granddaughter, adoption finally granted

Impossible to say how much - it depends!

Have a read of this - it will give you an idea of what can be covered and other information as to eligibility.

How much you get depends on your circumstances.

The Funeral Payment can help pay for:
    • burial fees and exclusive rights to burial in a particular plot
    • cremation fees, including the cost of the doctor’s certificate
    • up to £700 for funeral expenses, such as funeral director’s fees, flowers, coffin
    • travel to arrange or go to the funeral
    • the costs for moving the body within the UK - but only for the part of the journey that’s over 50 miles
    • If the person who died had a pre-paid funeral plan, you’ll only get help for items not covered by the plan.

You can find the full list of what can be included in the Funeral Payment in claim form SF200

Do you mean this person will have to arrange someone else's funeral or that they are the person who needs their funeral paid for?

    for somebody else.
This is a bit of an awkward situation, it's my nephews dad that has passed away, and they will of course contribute, but it should be only for the difference that the step mum will receive, not for the whole amount.
I just do not want to see them being taken advantage off

The situation will be investigated before the FP is paid out.

This is one of the things that stops its payment -
"If there’s a close relative of the deceased who isn’t getting one of the qualifying benefits you may not be able to claim Funeral Payment."

It would be better if his son said that he will not pay towards the funeral at all until its all sorted out.

I not sure what is all going on, all I know is, the step- mum has said the boys have to pay. I think she has received the payment but again not sure. They will pay as it was their dad, but they should only pay the difference between the amount she received and the final bill. The boys haven't had an easy life so I just want to look out for them, I love them all.

Well, they might chose to but they don't have to.

Whoever signs the paperwork with the funeral director has to pay the bill which is then usually reclaimed for the estate.

Unless the deceased has left absolutely no money, there's no need for anyone else to pay towards the funeral.

Suggest the sons ask to see the contract from the FD and the grant paperwork from the DWP before they hand over anything. They could then pay their contribution directly to the FD.

Having just had a look at the SF200 form it is clearly an open invitation for the DWP to force someone to cover the costs instead of getting a grant from the DWP.
I would suggest that when people fill out that form they should use extreme caution to ensure that a non consenting relative does not cause the refusal of that grant.
