Merchant account or alternative to Paypal

I need to take payments online, around £40k/year. Most of my customers are non-UK and I appear to be averaging 4% (including the 20p and the cross-border fee) total fee. Average transaction size is around £200.
Is there a better way to do this?

Try investigating other merchant account process like Worldpay and Sagepay. The advantage of PayPal is that it's easy and you may get some seller protection. A full merchant account will be potentially half the price, but require more integration and maybe less protection.0

Although percentages con the cards are going to be lower there is probably going to be a monthly fee to pay.
But it is still likely to be cheaper than Paypal although you may want to keep PP as a payment option. Around a third of my customers choose to pay that way - no way of knowing how many of those would have gone to a different site were it not an option.0
