Hit & Run from uninsured driver

Options
I parked my car and I went for shopping, when I came back, my car was smashed from front. One of independent witness came forward with hit & run car reg number etc. He also gave me his contact details. I rang police within few minutes, they are going to send me some forms to fill before they can give me crime reference number. Then I can speak to my insurance company.

I have been told from collusion department that hit & run car was uninsured and I have check reg number. its not MOTed either.

My car's front bumper is damaged badly and part between two front lights has gone inside card and side wings are pushed back due to impact of accident. I think my car might be writenoff. I am not sure if my car is road worthy anymore.

My question is,

1) How it is going to impact to my future car insurance price?

2) I have 8 years of no claim bonus with full comprehensive insurance. Will this car accident money will come from my account?

3) Can I take my car to local garage to make it roadworthy in mean time? As It may be dangerous to keep driving without inspection. and put some tapes to keep all the parts together etc..

3) How long it will take for the whole process to take complete? I cant keep driving this broken car.

4) I also had one hit & run accident before, there was not witness and I lost my case as I hitman refused to accept my claim. What could be outcomes in my new situation when I have independent witness?

Do I need to involve any solicitors ?

    1) Your premium will go up
    2) You will pay policy excess
    3) It's your car you can do whatever you like
    4) Depends on who your insurer is?
    5) With an independent witness, case ought to be classed as no fault incident

Fault nonfault make no difference. It's a claim on your policy, your ncb will be affected and the incident will have to be declared for a number of years.

Just let the insurer deal with it

You'll only create problems having repair work done then wanting the insurer to finish it off

If the OP claims on their own policy and their Insurer cannot recover their outlay then the claim will go down as a fault claim

Some insurance company's don't penalise you if hit by an uninsured Driver. Depends if you are with one that does this ??

They may not penalise as far as your NCB is concerned, but base premium can still increase.

I had a no fault claim, no effect on NCB, renewal quote doubled the following year.

You could always try making a claim via the Motor Insurance Bureau - https://www.mib.org.uk/making-a-claim/

If he has comprehensive cover that's no longer an option - the MIB will only pay if no other insurance policy covers the damage, including your own.

You can speak to your insurer and get the ball rolling with your repairs (or payout, if it's a write off) immediately, indeed your policy terms probably require you to contact them as soon as possible. No need to wait for a police reference number - just tell them when you do get it.

Some insurers have an uninsured driver promise, which would mean you have no excess to pay and that your NCB will be unaffected. If your insurer isn't one of them then unfortunately you'll have to pay the excess, and your NCD will be reduced to 3 years unless your insurer manages to recover their costs from the driver himself (which is unlikely).

You'll have to declare the accident to insurers for 3-5 years, and contrary to what Missile says it will be classed as a fault claim - "fault" in insurance jargon means that your insurer could not recover their costs from any other party, not necessarily that you were to blame for the incident.

The OP can make a legal claim for all his uninsured losses, including excess and claim those costs from the MIB.

Pretty good chance you'll see the car again while your looking for parking in that car park again, i'd block the f***er in and call the Police.
