Linksys Encryption Problem

Any advice would be gratefully received:-
I bought my linksys WRT54GS a year or so ago. It is set up on my main pc with a USB network adapter as there was no network adapter card within the pc itself (WUSB54GS). All my add-on's for the wireless network have been Linksys.
From day one I had real trouble trying to get the encryption to work. When I rang the Linksys helpline I was on the phone for 3 hours and my pc had been so mucked about with the settings they had quoted to me (still without the encryption being set up successfully) that I had to do a system restore to get my pc back to normal.
Since then the wireless network has been extended to include a Notebook Adapter (WPC54GS) which I use with my laptop.
Also I have a WET54G Ethernet Bridge that my son uses for his x-box 360 in his bedroom.
It all works wonderfully, but I have not been able to set up the encryption. I have read a few articles about people 'logging on' to wireless networks that are unsecured and downloading whateve they like and I am worried about this to say the least.
I have searched the internet for instructions on what to do, but have not seen any that are VERY basic (which I need) as I am not very techie and seem to be struggling with the jargon.
Can anyone advise on this one please?
Maybe show me a link that I can pick up step by step instructions from. I seem to recall there was a booklet in the Router box, but I have gone through all the boxes and it has disappeared.
Best wishes.

All that you need to do is get a long random password from here and copy and paste it to a notepad file. Log into your router (launch Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, and enter the Router’s default IP address, 192.168.1.1, in the Address field. Then press Enter) and go to the wireless settings page and paste this password into the WPA-PSK encryption box. Then each device on your network will need the same password pasted in before it will be able to connect. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

I would use hex code i.e Letters A - F and numbers 0 - 9.
Some wireless devices use different encryption and dont always read them correctly, but they all read Hex OK.0 -

You will have to setup the bridge with the same encryption key.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
