Howdy,
First post on this forum, hoping someone can advise me. I have a dell computer which I purchase last year, I did not purchase extended warranty so effectively the warranty has expired. Went to us the computer yesterday tried pressing the on button and it would not depress.
.
The question is, is this a relatively simpl job that any pc repair shop can handle or should I call Dell and find out how much they will charge to do this.
Any advise will be gratefully received.

Not any pc repair shop, especially if it is a CRT monitor as very high voltages (over 20000 volts) are present in CRT monitors and televisions even when switched off.
I expect many montior/TV repair shops to be able to cope.0 -
It might well be cheaper to buy a new monitor? If you take it somewhere for a quote just bear in mind the cost of a new monitor with a 1year or 3year warrenty and take that into account before deciding on repair or not.
I woulnd't buy an extended warrenty either these things drop in value so quickly by the time it's out of the standard warranty it's often not worth much.
Saying that if it's just that the physical button wouldn't depress I'd defo take it somewhere for a quote (and if you go to a mainstream shop check with an independant local shop too) as they may just be able to replace the switch behind the button from another faulty screen.
welcome to the forum by the way...
good luck,

Sale of goods act could be useful here. regardless of the price of a monitor, it's reasonable to expect it to last more than a year or so. I'd contact the place you bought it from and quote the sale of goods act asking them to repair or replace the monitor since it's clearly not been of an acceptable standard.
Keen photographer with sales in the UK and abroad.

Thanks everyone for your help. Its a 19" flat screen which I have, does that make any difference? Will contact Dell if no joy their will try independent repair shop.
