How to spend 45.000 points before cancellation of my UK Amex Gold?

Options
I have signed up for the The Preferred Rewards Gold Card in the United Kingdom at 4 January 2016.

Amex informed me that I will receive 10,000 Membership Rewards points as anniversary bonus within 31 days from on or around 21st January, 2017. I'm planning to cancel my UK Amex after that.

My friend informed me I will lose all Amex points after cancelling a card. Since I've moved to the Netherlands I've received a new Dutch American Express Gold Premium here and don't need the one from the UK any more.

What's the best way to spend so many membership reward points? I used to love British Airways Avios, but they are a lot less useful now I don't live in the United Kingdom any more.

You could also transfer them to KLM's Flying Blue programme?
  • Why dint you look at the redemption options and work out what's best for you?
  • You could spend on Amazon

Yeah, but you will receive only £4.50 for every 1,000 points redeemed.

Spend them at Amazon and get a discount but that offer expires on January 31 2017 so not a lot of time left. I'm not sure if the offer is to be replaced or renewed.

I got an amazon gift card but I don't see that offer on Amazon UK anymore.

The usual way is to maximise them by transferring to partners such as flights, hotels, etc and getting a discount but I don't think you want that.

Yes, I did that! But you only need to spend 100 membership reward points or so and get £15 off an order of £25. Great deal yeah.

Yeah good deal. I just hope it's going to be repeated or otherwise I'll have a problem spending points too :)
  • You only need to spend 2 points actually (if you want to put your points to better use) :)

I have about 20k points and also no idea what to do with them. I recommend looking at all of the airlines you might want to travel with and how the points convert.

I tried 1 point and that failed, so I decided to try 100 points instead.

Shame. That's a full 98 points (worth ~98 pennies) I could have put to better use.
