Anyone else had this?

Hi all,

Currently in very early stages of buying. We have a slight odd situation which I have not experienced before, have any of you and if so what were the reasons?

My survey and valuation have been booked in TWICE, arranged through the sellers agent only to get cancelled on both occasions. Both the day before. We were due to have it carried out on Wednesday this week and Monday next week. The agent stated he couldn't gain access.??? It's rebooked for next Friday. Thoughts please.... oh I have emailed said agent at 5pm when I found out so I hope to have an explanation tomorrow, but estate agents are, well, estate agents! Thanks

    "Couldn't get access"...

The vendor is living in the property? It's rented? It's empty?
  • Sorry yes vendor is living at the property he owns the house. The estate agent is a friend apparently. I am baffled to why the agent can't just go ahead when the times and dates have already been agreed.

Because the vendor's being awkward...? Does the EA have a key, or are you reliant on the vendor being present?
  • I am not entirely sure if the vendor or the agent is planning on being present during the survey. I have left it in the hands of the surveying company to contact the agents and organise the times. I have had zero contact with the vendor or agents since offer was accepted. I presume if the agent replies to my message tomorrow I will find out the what's and wherefores. I. just think surely it's booked and it's been agreed why then change it?As I say I have not experienced this before either when I have sold or purchased.

Maybe the vendor's mother was visiting for lunch that day........?

Maybe he was home in bed sick?

Maybe he was showing the property to another potential buyer?

There are 101 possible reasons for the cancelled appointment, 58 of them innocent/unavoidable, 22 lazy, 16 worrying, and 5 hilarious!
  • Another reason - gaining access? Twice. I will have to accept it for what it is, whatever it is and hope that it doesn't keep happening because their "quick sale" (no chain) will drag on.It's just a tad frustrating. The joys of house buying. Thanks for the replies.
