Can landlord keep my deposit before I've signed a tenancy/moved in

Head in hands.... NEVER ever sign anything without receiving a copy for your records.

Personally i'd make my self such a nuisance to the agent it's just easier to return your monies....

How is it clear? It does not mention holding deposit.

At best for the OP it is unclear the purpose of the deposit and so a court would probably find in favour of the OP. However, the OP states that they signed more detailed terms and if those are clear that £475 is a holding deposit until tenancy starts then the OP will lose:".
