Those procedures ensure that the guarantor will be unable to "wriggle out of it" at a later date: evidently your daughter had a very cautious landlord. OTOH some landlords simply accept an address and a signature, and don't even check that the address is really that of the parent or supposed guarantor.0 -
But it's not a remote possibility. It's an odds on favourite. I suspect you were being polite! You also need to prepare yourself for the possibility (however remotely) that your daughter has forged your signature.not unheard of, there are countless posts on here where family members have forged signatures to obtain credit.
If that's the case, you have two options:
1) Acknowledge the debt as your own and repay it, or
2) Report your daughter for committing fraud.
There's option three which is to tell him that you didn't sign the form and have no liability. It's then up to the landlord to decide who / how to pursue the debt and report people to the police.0 -

Yep, hadn't thought of that one.PeacefulWaters wrote: »There's option three which is to tell him that you didn't sign the form and have no liability. It will restore your honour, make you feel proud, protect your house, give you a job, clean up the neighbourhood, remind you of how great you once were, clear out the venal and the corrupt, remove anything you feel is unlike you... [it] doesn't walk in saying, "our programme means militias, mass imprisonments, transportations, war and persecution."0 -
For the guarantee to be legally binding it has to be executed as a deed which means the guarantor's signature on its own is not enough it also has to be witnessed. The guarantor also has to see a copy of the tenancy agreement before signing the deed. Many guarantees are not set up correctly. Good news for the guarantor when the tenant is in arrears, not so good news for the landlord.0
