you should have just cheated and damaged it in some way and sent it back faulty. you usually have a choice between a replacement and a refund then. i did it once years ago when i didnt like a record. i dripped a little bit of superglue onto it and took it back. :shhh:

is to exchange it for something of a similar value, which is wrapped. Wait a couple of days, and take that in (still wrapped) and get your refund! Easy!
I once had a run in with a smarmy guy in Asda whom refused to refund me my £10 for a game which I had bought as a gift, as it was opened. I argued, before telling him i'd like a replacement, which he gave me. As soon as I had the replacement, I told him I'd like a refund as it was still wrapped. He was a little shocked but under shop rules he was forced to give me a refund as it was still in its wrapping. - i don't suggest doing it quite like that, but you get the idea...
