Not sure where to post this, but am sure will get an answer from this forum. Bought a CD from HMV online for son. After he listened it, he decided he does not like it. HMV CS told me since he has opened it, it cannot be returned? Is that right? Thanks

Yes....otherwise people would be buying CD's, copying them & returning them for a refund.0

under the sale of goods act, a refund only has to be given if the item is faulty, or if it is 'not suitable for the purpose it was bought'. a lot of shops will give refunds, but it is not a legal requirementI am the God of HellFire, and I bring you...PEANUTS!0

If he doesn't like it, he could try selling it on eBay? Probably won't get the full price back, but he might get something - especially if it's a fairly recent 'chart' album!

It's been a long time since I bought anything from a CD shop, but they always used to provide a listening post so that you can sample before you buy. Might be worth it in future!Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0

They are under no obligation to do this either... If you open the item then its yours. They dont have to take it back unless its faulty or not fit for purpose.. Changing your mind doesnt count0 -
Isnt that akin to going to the pictures to watch a film deciding you didnt like the film and asking for your money back. ok so if the quality of the showing wasnt up to scratch say it jumped for instance you would be entitled but because you didnt like the story line or the acting would be plain stupid to ask for money back
I have bought countless cds and vinyls (showing my age here) over the years on the back of one single to find the album rubbish. Its a learning curve
File it to the back of the cd collection and hope in years to come his taste in music changesMortgage overpayments 2008 (started August) £3000 -

in the days before free internet music, if I didnt like an album I simply took it back to HMV and said it was a load of crap. They never once refused me a refund.0

HMV online might take a different stand because of postage/processing costs.0
