Thanks, I would have thought it would be ok from frost as its a combi so no tanks, it would need to get extremely cold I assume to freeze pipes internally as will be insulation in the walls and loft.

It's the pipes freezing you need to worry about. Especially in a modern boiler, lots of very tiny pipes in the heat exchanger, you don't want that freezing up.

You're probably right that you'll need an extended spell of cold to cause a problem but do remember insulation on its own only reduces the rate the house cools.

You'll get some solar gain during the day but this may not be enough to keep the temperature high enough. There is a good reason insurers say you must drain down the heating system if leaving a property empty for a long period.

There is a known specific issue with condensing boilers because of the condensate line. If water freezes in this line where it exits the building the boiler will shut itself down. Shut down in the middle of a cold night in winter is the worst possible time!

It's winter. If it's extremely cold outside, and the heating is never on, then it's going to get extremely cold inside too. I wouldn't just cross my fingers.

You're actually better off than most people who buy houses with boilers which are years old and do not have it inspected by a gas safe engineer. The seller has paid for this inspection for you AND you get the building regulations certificate to say it complies.

If you're worried that the gas safe engineer used may be dishonest then you'll have to pay one you trust yourself.

Other than that, just make sure the heating and hot water are working. No one is going to guarantee you the system will be working tomorrow.
