Hi there
I have my own website which shows details of a children's book I have self-published. I would love to promote the website address and thought maybe I could use my car.
Do you have any advice/ideas of the best way to do this. Simple A4 paper on inside of back window or get long website address car sticker?
Would love some of your thoughts and advice.
Many thanks

Perhaps it would look nicer / more professional on those magnetic stick on squares you can have printed. I don't think they cost very much?0

I personally think you need to advertise somewhere that people can make a note of it. You can't make a note of any website address when driving along or following your vehicle if you display it in the rear window. Most people cannot recall the address by the time they get home. I worked for 10 years in the advertising industry. What about your local newspaper? Will they do you a free editorial? They will also do leaflet drops for you. Ask them because most newspapers will offer to do this for you. Or contact your local radio station. After monitoring advertising I really don't think that a sticker in a vehicle window is very effective.0

Can you not go along to your local book shop and ask them to stock/promote it? Or at least put a poster up with some tear-off bits at the bottom so people can look at the web page when they get home? Do the same for the local library... Local shops like local authors! I have an illustration of mine on the front cover of a book and all my friends/family bought it as word spread by email :-)Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
WHy not go to your local sign writing shop and ask how much for vinal stickers for your car .. make a rolling advert that travels miles :-)If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

Have you got an ISBN number yet? If not do so, and that will help greatly in promoting your book.
PM for ISBN application pack.
Also have you tried Amazon?0 -
Why not try an affilaite scheme - people who already have websites attracting people who could want to be your customers have ads on their sites in return for a commission if they send someone to your site who buys something. There is loads of information and people giving advice on http://www.affiliates4u.com/ if you are interested. It is a very low cost way of advertising to potentially millions!0

There's people on ebay that will supply your own custom made vinyl stickers for your car at a really low price. I've used someone called tony.palmer before and can highly reccommend them.0

I have used these people to good effect:

I have bought both magnetic vehicle signs and corex signs from them.
They also do vinyl graphics and stickers which may well be more suitable for your needs.

Vinyl sign writing is cheap as chips and easy to apply, but is it really worth it?
I run a transport "business" (self em.) of sorts and my van is sign writen. I always try to ask where people have heard about me, and not one customer has said they saw the ads on the van. It's probably atracted a bit more business to more site, which aint a bad thing though. The sign writing is more handy just so people know who you are when you turn up0 -
We run a small children's related business and the back window of our car is signwritten. It is a vinyl type material with lots of little holes in it. From a distance - outside - you can see our logo, phone number and website very clearly. As you get closer up to the car, obviously you can see the material has holes in it, but you can still read it well. The material is white but the big plus point for us is that when inside the car, you can still see out of the back window. Not sure what the material is to be honest, but I'm sure a good sign writer will know what it is.
Advertising on the car has worked for us. Customers have commented that they have seen the car around town, one person came to us as a result of seeing our car parked outside a customer's house, others have commented they've seen it outside school etc.
My advice would be to not rely on this as a sole advertising route, but to use it to back up other promotion you may be doing. It isn't going to do any harm (unless your driving leaves a lot to be desired - you can't really cut people up whilst advertising your phone number across the back window!!!)
It has worked for us, but don't expect instant miracles (though the same is true of any advertising)0
