Which colour light, dimmer & plug switches

Hi All,

Just looking for some advice regarding which colour switches to go for in my new flat which I have just decorated.

I have painted the whole flat white and need to put new light, dimmer and plug switches in but there are so many different types - Black Nickel, Brushed Stainless Steel, etc.

I don't want to have switches with fingerprint marks on and in need of constant wiping so I assume the brushed stainless steel ones would go best but am not 100% sure.

A lot of people will tell you just to go for white, which is fine and looks good/clean.

I personally prefer Black Nickel. And i love the light switches that are 'toggle'y :)

I'm obsessed with interior design and think that white is fine. There are more intereting things to spend money on.

Fashion is moving away from chromes and silver into unlacquered bronzes, copper, rose gold etc. and so you might find that they date. It's the top end people selling the more interesting colours at the moment, but it will sneak in. Copper light fittings (not switches) are appearing in more mainstream shops like John Lewis.

We went for black nickel. I like them but I have to clean them often as they do show up every fingerprint. WD40 cleans them easily but I wouldn't chose them again.

  • Thanks guys, going to go for the Brushed Stainless Steel :)
  • We have a mixture of white and brushed stainless steel. Personally I find chrome fixtures tacky. The black ones can look cool I think, in the right room. White and brushed steel will go with pretty much anything though.
