Change vehicle classification
Options
Just bought the cheapest car ever. Went to tax it and it's registered disabled and exempt from tax.
Now I'm not a numpty so I want to tax it
So is this an easy fix to change the classification? There is only an online MOT no paper documents.
Please help. My husband is gonna have a field day if I can't get this sorted
Thanks

You should have the new keepers slip. Without that you may need to wait for the logbook before you can put the car on the road.
When it was MOTd it would still have an MOT sheet on printed paper, just a standard A4 sheet nothing special these days though.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Last time I did it I just used the long number on the small green new keepers slip to tax the car. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I have the green slip.
I'm going to ring the Dvla in the morning. I can't tax the vehicle yet as it's telling me it's been classified as disabled and exempt
So I need to change the classification so I can tax it
I'm hoping I can do that tomorrow over the phone so I can get this car up and running0 -
You need to go to the post offics.
What to take to the Post Office
You need to take:
the V5C registration certificate (log book) in your name, or a new keeper supplement (V5C/2) if you’ve just bought the vehicle
your vehicle tax reminder letter (V11) if you have one
an MOT certificate that’s valid when the tax starts, or evidence if your vehicle’s exempt from an MOT (V112)
evidence of any eligibility for a disability exemption or reduction
an insurance certificate or cover note (only in Northern Ireland)0 -
I'm not disabled I want to tax the car so I need to change the classification
I have no Paper MOT just online when you put Reg in gov website it is MOT till June
I have the green new keeper slip0 -
The first step is to get a duplicate mot, you can get that from ANY mot tester
https://www.gov.uk/replacing-lost-damaged-mot-certificate
Then got to the post office with your V5C and shiny new MOT
They can sort it out there and then0 -
So just to let you know
I went to the postie
Got a V62 filled that in but needed to VIN off the car so went to the local garage who was able to pull up last MOT details and fill it in for me.
Postie then went on to say that they needed previous keepers details before they can proceed so I phoned the DVLA and they said that's absolutely not the case. Had murder with them but eventually sorted it out.
Thank you for all your help.0
