First direct easy ish £225

Switched a couple of times in the last couple of years, not as dedicated as some, OH isn't that keen, so try to do as much as I can ;)

Was just looking at the First Direct account, for the £125 incentive, currently have Halifax reward as main joint account (£5 reward) & the Co-op, again joint (for the £150 switch incentive & everyday rewards) as a very recently switched account.

Was thinking, as OH not keen to keep switching, can I open a separate basic Halifax account in just my name, switch that to First Direct for the incentive, stay (paying in/out the £1000 a month by standing order from main account) for 6 months, then ask to leave & they will pay me another £100 to leave.

Or switch to First Direct, wait for the incentive to be paid then leave?

Has anyone left First Direct within the 1st year for the £100? was it easy enough?

    Or, alternatively:

Switch to FD, get £125, open regular saver @ 5%.

This is what I did (£100 for me). Then I referred my sister and should receive £50 for doing so.
  • sounds good, might do that instead, just opened 2nd Halifax account ready to switch when I can.

Any direct debits needed, can't see it anywhere

    No, DDs needed.

FD 1st account has a monthly charge after 6 months but this can be avoided by opening a savings account (not the regular saver) and depositing just £1.
  • I have been considering moving over to First Direct for the incentive, However reading there T&C's it says New Customers only.

I have been a First Direct customer, A savings account only, never a current account with the last transaction 5 March 2007 when I withdrew the full amount, Don't think I formally closed the account.

Being nearly 10 years ago, Would I still be classed as existing customer?
Would I get the switching incentive?

They will probably still hold a record of you, even if the account itself is closed or was closed, and as such they would be within their rights to decline you for the incentive.

You can ask them, but expect a no.
