broadband/TV advice

Hi all,
Trying to bring down my monthly costs which are around £40. Currently have Virgin cable with Tivo box. Have an unused satelite dish on my house but no aerial.
Basically happy with free to air TV although I would like BT sport for the footy. Very happy with Virgins high speed broadband so reluctant to move to a worse service.
Whats the best option? move to freesat for TV and then get a broadband deal from BT which would allow me to watch BT sport online?
Or is it worth paying for an aerial to be installed?
The complications lead me to just do nothing, but I know in the long term I should do something!

I would have thought an aerial would be a good investment. (even if fitted in the loft - see what neighbours have)

BT are now going to charge for BT sport.

£40 sounds a good deal if it includes line rental (if you have a phone)

It’s about £43 to be exact so its not a bad deal at all, that’s why it has been easy to put off the hassle of changing over!

But it still adds up over time and I’m effectively paying about £20 a month for what I could have for free although obviously it requires an upfront cost of buying a recordable TV box to replace the Tivo and either connecting to the dish or installing an aerial.

Would you say its worth investing in the aerial installation or sticking with the dish? Would be quite good to remove the ugly dish, but I’ve kept it up just in case. What are the advantages of an aerial over a dish other than it looks better?

Unless you want to change provider ever year (like some do) the minimum/typical you should expect to pay for linerent & BB is £30.

Considering you have the VM service (which is very good) and TV and BT sport ! for £42 is very good. I'm not sure you could beat that having BT sport? I wouldn't know.

The only advantage of an Ariel I can think of is that recorders will be cheaper for them (and easily record 2 channels at once). Not sure about SAT. plus you can plug any TV into an aerial.

I can see why you haven't moved yet with the cost of a recorder £200? and aerial install £150+??? payback will take ages.

I would stick with the £42 deal as long as you can.

Others maybe able to advise better.
  • Have to agree with AndyPK that that's not a bad deal, slightly depending on your BB speed of course.

Are there any Virgin extras you can drop to lower the price?

I'm not sure that the OP has a phone line which maybe why it's cheap ?

or maybe the LR isn't mentioned? which is why it appears such a good deal to us.

(VM LR is £19) and if that was included it doesn't look a good deal anymore

    No its all included
Maybe best to stick with it
Just to clarify I don't have BT sport though - it was something I wanted, but I'm not prepared to pay the extra 15 a month to get via Virgin

Plusnet looks like the best option for BT Sport.

38Mbps Fibre BB is on offer at £27.50pm at the moment, which includes Landline rental.

For £5 per month & £57 upfront, you can add a recording Youview box. This provides 20 channels over the Internet (no aerial) including BT Sport Lite. You can upgrade to full BT Sport for £5pm.

If/when you install an aerial, you can get access to 70 Freeview channels.

    Hello

I have 30 days to cancel my Sky b/b contract following the price increase on line rental ( I have no tv contract)

I have been offered £17.40 per month for standard unlimited B/B less an £18 credit to my account so for a year contract that is £15.90 a month, total £190.80

Can anyone say if that is any good/are people getting better?

    thanks

Sounds good to me. It's less than the typical price of LR of £19 so can't be bad.
