Replacement windows quotation from Everest

I'd be grateful for any advice on who to contact to get quotes for replacing our windows. I've not had to do this for over 20 years so am a bit out of practice.
We live in a semi-detached cottage, old but not listed, and would like to replace all windows (eight), two doors and a set of French doors. Presently wood, some double glazed, but we probably want to go with UPVC.
My husband wanted us to get a quote from Everest. So they've been round and quoted almost £18,000. I've read a few old threads which say their quotes are fairly ridiculous. To be honest, I can't afford that kind of cost anyway, but we do need to replace at least some of the windows. So I'm wondering if that's a realistic price, in which case we will have to have a re-think.
We live in Lincolnshire, so any suggestions for other reliable suppliers would also be welcome.
Thank you.

Yes, for replacement that's an insane price (but as you say, standard enough for Everest!)
Even if you were looking to create brand new holes for 8 windows and 3 doors (i.e. cutting out the brick work and adding lintels), it wouldn't come near £18,000.
I'd suggest to contact some local companies? Using the FENSA directory can be good.
I live in Wales and I know prices vary, but any windows I've had done have been closer to £200-£300 per window (rising to £500 for very big windows).
I'm not 100% sure on what prices you should expect, but using conservative estimates:
Windows x 8 = £3,200
UPVC door x 2 = £1,750
French doors = £1,500
I'd expect to pay less than that really, but I'd guess at that for an upper estimate.0 -
I've used stargaze in Lincoln before and was very happy with both price and quality, but that was 10 or more years ago

8 large windows... £3200...
2x Door.. £800
French Doors... £1500
£5500.... Total (Supplied and Fitted)..
Why did i come to this price? Well, i needed 7 windows. Some large, some small and they came to £2000 supplied. I estimated £100 per window for fitting, its quite simple which made it £2700. I gather the extra window would be no more than £400 + £100. Then the doors, well i had one fitted not so long ago for £450. I figured the more work you do, the cheaper it gets so thats £800. Then were onto the French Doors, a tough one however i had some of these fitted recently too. We had a window take out, a new opening created and the old back door removed, bricked up 1/2 way and a huge window installed. This came to just over £2000. I suspect you want something nice so i went for £1500.
Ive had safestyle give me a quote for the 7 windows, they wanted £7500 then called the boss for a discount. This came to £4000 then £3100 if i purchased there and then....they've been calling asking me for the best price (which is £2800) and say they can beat it meaning they the real deal is less than £2800...
I'm in lincolnshire, my town hall is in Louth..0 -
Post #2...
Have a look at the site/sites below, have an idea what type of window you want, and what it needs to look like. Dont worry about which way the widow opens or if there is a trickle vent, let the window company sort that out. They will give you some speal about they have to put "like for like" and upstairs needs "fire exit" hinges so someone/anyone can get out.
Glass, well thats got to be A-Rated these days. They all use difference glasses and i love it when a salesman turns up with a "window in a bag" to show me...they must have spotted i have UPVC windows already.....
Anyhow.... here is some "links". If you do enter some "details", prepare for some phone calls from Jacksons Windows etc...so give them a duff phone number etc.
