I'd be grateful for any advice on who to contact to get quotes for replacing our windows. I've not had to do this for over 20 years so am a bit out of practice.
We live in a semi-detached cottage, old but not listed, and would like to replace all windows (eight), two doors and a set of French doors. Presently wood, some double glazed, but we probably want to go with UPVC.
My husband wanted us to get a quote from Everest. So they've been round and quoted almost £18,000. I've read a few old threads which say their quotes are fairly ridiculous. To be honest, I can't afford that kind of cost anyway, but we do need to replace at least some of the windows. So I'm wondering if that's a realistic price, in which case we will have to have a re-think.
We live in Lincolnshire, so any suggestions for other reliable suppliers would also be welcome.
Thank you.

Our friends live in Kirton, Lincs and have had their windows done and are very pleased, I can get you the number if you want. Dunno who it was...0

Everest are invariably double what every one else charges.
Personally, I would get quotes for the work from 3 local companies, preferably get names from local people and ask the companies for customer references and take them up on it.
If Everest are quoting 18k i would think you would get normal quotes around half of that.
Good luck.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0

Do wooden windows only last 20 years?0

No, some of the windows are much older than that - the last time I did this was at a different house.
But I will say the older windows are better than the newer ones! Probably a difference in the wood used.0

As stated above when we quote against Everest we are always at least half there price or less.if you think peoples advice is helpfull please take the time to clicking the thank you button it gives great satisfaction0

Just about to post a thread with a similar question. We got a quote from Everest and they wanted £5,000 to replace the back patio door and £27,000 to replace all the windows. I was shocked! First time buyer so never had to deal with any of this stuff before but knew it was a stupid price.
I mean, it's glass, one of the cheapest materials on earth. I know it's not the same glass used to make our light bulbs but I'm sure it's not far off. Any advice about getting new windows installed will be much appreciated.0

Like the earlier posts said, find some local companies and get them round for a quote. It really is that simple.8kW (4kW WNW, 4kW SSE) 6kW inverter. 6.5kWh battery.0
