My response above was perhaps a tad cynical :o, but I am simply concerned that the bugdet whoopsydaisy has been left with is liveable. Especially considering that as it now stands, an IPA payment must be deducted from it as well.

    Hi whoopsy,

I would definitely appeal against that; you won't be penalised for doing it and you have a lot to gain if you're successful. It's absolutely bloody ridiculous to knock £60 of your transport costs if that's what you spend.

I can imagine you're not going to want to jeopardise your early discharge or go through another load of aggravation but you're going to be stuck with that for 3 years so it's got to be a budget that you can live with.

Why don't you post your budget as it stands now and let us have a look at it again.

    Regards

    Richard
  • Hi Woopsy

Glad to hear it didnt go too badly, although like the others have said it sounds like your OR was a bit of a crafty one with that IPA (Better not say too much in case my OR is listening ... by the way in case they are listening .. I think all the OR staff at the Southampton office are wonderful, fair, saints on earth OK - remember I said that at 3pm!)

I really will be in doo doo if I am expected to remember what I spent all my dosh on - being a person with long term mental health isssues (sounds much better than saying "a loony"!), I often spent money when I was depressed or a bit high but not on anything lavish! Luckily OR cant put an IPA on me since am only on benefits so maybe he will go easy - I will let you know!

Have a drink on me,

Personally, I would have argued that the union dues were essential spending - I have friends who work in local authorities and they seem to be routinely shafted by managers so representation is essential

Yes Whoops. Appeal the SOA and give mileage and figures for the transport costs and insist that they cannot be any lower than £160

I would go so far as saying that it is a fundamental 'human right' to be allowed membership of a Trades Union, and I would be most surprised if the OR has the legal powers to deny you that 'right'.

I think that this needs to be disputed.

  • The petrol costs were knocked down as I was only allowed travel "to and from work" as costs, I think that they may be looking to a return to the 19th century where people generally did not leave their village.

My situation is a bit complicated due to a whether something on my income is counted (It's irregular) so they're getting back to me on whether the IPA will go ahead, so i'm crossing fingers.

As for Union. In my job it is advised by all parties (employers too) and is considered too much of a risk if you are not a member of a union.

    p.s. I now have a £135 surplus.

  • The ORs Office have now phoned 3 times asking me to "clarify" things. If they have said at the interview that they'd recommend me for early discharge can they change their minds??? There seems to be a lot of "clarifying" going on!?

It depends on 'what' they are asking to be 'clarified', wd. Hopefully, they are re-considering their changes to your I/E.
I wouldn't, seriously, think that this 'clarification' will affect your 'early discharge' chances, but I hope it does affect their decision to award an IPA.
