Buying sealed box iPad off ebay

I'm not sure what the warranty position is on these. The iPad I'm interested in shows on Apple's website as not being registered i.e. No purchase date recorded.
But is it possible to buy an iPad from a non trade seller and still register the product with Apple as first registered user and get a one year warranty?

You'd have to ask apple.
I know its becoming more common for manufacturers only to give a warranty when purchased from an authorised retailer so it would really depend on what apples policy is.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
It could be a grey import and therefore not covered. I purchased a "grey" ipod from eBay years ago and Apple did replace it when it died after 3 months, but I certainly wouldn't bank on them providing any support.0

They know when they are made by the serial number and it used to be that they would warrant it on that basis. I also had an Ipod with no receipt and they swapped it because the serial showed it was only 8 months old.
That was years ago though so don't know how they operate now.0
