Hence the recommendation for the BT8500/8600 in the previous post.

I have had the 8500 for over two years now and not one unsolicited call has got through.
  • We've had awful problems with these calls; my elderly father who has Alzheimers was being bombarded with them and had fallen victim to a number of scams/hard selling calls.

We have now moved to BT and installed BT Call protect for him, but have backed this up with an in-line call blocker. You programme into it numbers that you do wish to receive calls from (family, friends etc) and calls from any "unrecognised" numbers do not get through . You can however still view the calls received on 1471/Caller ID or on the Call Protect page at your BT account. The difference his has made in a week is simply incredible; Dad is no longer worried to answer his phone (he lives alone and as well as a landline it is of course a lifeline) and I can keep an eye on who has called. On average he receives two scam/nuisance calls every day, despite being registered with the TPS.

The call blocker to seconds to install and is easily programmed with your "approved" numbers. It can hold 100 numbers. I appreciate this wouldn't work for everybody if you received calls from numbers you wouldn't know, but it has been a godsend for our family. You need Caller ID to be enabled for the Call Blocker to work.

This is the device we purchased, which is apparently approved by the police and dementia organisations. A larger number capacity model is also available:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/CPR-Protect-Landline-Call-Blocker/dp/B00LL9H0FM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1534786401&sr=8-3&keywords=CPR+Call+Blocker

I would highly recommend this device, it's simply wonderful and has put an end to a highly stressful situation for Dad and the whole family.

I'm glad that it's worked for you, but it's not nearly as effective or as versatile as the BT8500/8600 series.

These will still allow a legitimate call through, say from doctors surgery or other organisations that withhold their number.

Maybe your father doesn't need these sort of callers to get through at all, but there are a number of people out there who do.
