Decorating behind radiators

I remember a while ago somebody demonstrating a product on dragons den which allowed you to drop the radiator forward without removing and draining down so you can decorate behind.

Any advice/experience of this or anything similar?

Many thanks

That seems more hassle than just draining

I think this could be it. Just wondered if anyone has experience?

My OH hates draining down the new CH system and we have every room to decorate due to floor to ceiling woodchip :)

We will be changing every radiator as old ones are inefficient so didnt know whether it would be worthwhile fitting something to make decorating easier in the future?

When I had need to take a radiator off the wall, I put some blocks on the floor to a similar height as the bottom of the radiator. Loosened the gland nuts slightly, and after makinf sure the pipes were free of the wall clips, lifted the radiator off the mounts and rotated it so that it laid flat on the blocks.

Having done some plumbing work on the CH system, I now have a drain down valve fitted - Draining the rad is going to so much easier.. But the rad will still retain some of that inky black water, so will need to be careful when unmounting it from the wall. Fortunately, a couple of blanking plugs are sitting in my toolbox ready and waiting.

If you are fitting new rads at some stage, well worth fitting a drain down valve. I'd steer clear of expensive gimmicks that add another possible point of leakage in the system.

You can get special rollers to paint behind radiators. I've always found you can do a good enough job like that. Might not be the most professional finish but who will see?

Theyre called radiator rollers... whodve funk it? :p

Second them. Can have problem fitting with double radiators just check out how much space there is. Can also be used to stick down wallpaper behind a radiator if your creative enough with the cutting.

You dont have to drain down the CH system. Just turn off the valves and drain the single radiator, shouldnt take more than 5 minutes. Once youve done all the decorating do a complete drain of CH and reapply inhibitor etc.
