Virgin Media Contract

Hi,
I am after some help and advice if possible.
We are currently with Virgin Media and have been for 8 years but with 6 months remaining on our contract and we wish to cancel.
So the reason for canceling is we moved into a new property and arranged installation over a month in advance for the day after we moved in as I work from home and require the internet.
The day before our installation Virgin called to tell us there would be an 8 week delay which we unfortunately could not accept.
We canceled over the phone and were told that there would be no charge apart from a £12 fee. However, Virgin called yesterday (almost a week later) insisting we owe them £300 for the remainder of our contract. We are arguing this charge but does anyone have any advice?
Surely making us waiting 8 weeks is a breach of contract?
To complicate matters as we were under the impression we had canceled we had Sky installed the day Virgin called back demanding the money.
thank you.

You work from home . So is this a business contract with service level agreements ???0

So their letting you transfer your contract to a new location at no penslty, and now you want to cancel due to late provision, so now the cancellation kicks in? You're in breach of the minimum term, and the charge is correct. You've shot yourself in the foot!0

We have moved multiple times during our 8 years with Virgin and we have never incurred a penalty.
I would hardly call being told the day before the planned installation that there would be an 8 week delay shooting myself in the foot.
Anyway, it has all been sorted and Virgin have released us from the contract with no charge.0
