There's a blast from the past ... there used to be one not too far from where I used to work in Newcastle.

Is the franchise even still going?

I think any MOT tester can class a vehicle as "dangerous to drive" following an MOT failure and can then inform VOSA who may take necessary action to prevent the vehicle from being driven but I don't think the tester themselves can impound the vehicle.

As long as you've paid for work undertaken ie. testing, then it's up to you if you risk the wrath of the law on the way home.

I'm curious why you'd bother with a "winter check" when your car has just passed an MOT. More effective marketing from Halfords I guess
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

They went in the early 2000s, bought out by Kwikfit I believe, I may be wrong on that account but a couple of local branches where I used to live became Kwikfit.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world

I'm guessing perhaps because it's free - and they'll even top up your screenwash for free !

Pure coincidence that they happen to find a load of other work that needs doing whilst they're at it. Cynical, me ? :p

Think they've gone tits up, the one nearest me is now a halfrauds.

I used to live near the Chillingham Road one as a kid.

What's a winter check got to do with passing an MOT? An MOT wouldn't look at all the fluid levels. It wouldn't check that the antifreeze is up to standard. It wouldn't check the state of the battery. And it only checks that the brakes work - I have had a car pass an MOT with leaking slave cylinders in the past.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

That's the one I remember ... I used to work at Parsons until about 20 years ago. (I left before it closed down). :)

One entrance into the work shop from Warton Terrace the other into the back lane. When testing the cars they drove them like they'd stolen them.

£200 seems very steep for new brake pads. My local indy charges £55 per axle all in.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.
