MOT - Rear and front windscreen wash reversed

Options
Hi everyone, the switch has gone on my front windscreen wash so I just reversed it (since my rear wiper doesn't work anyway) - will this pass my MOT? The front wash now works using the rear switch and the rear wash doesn't work at all.

I've never seen an MOT tester actually test the rear wiper/washer, but that doesn't mean it won't happen.

Probably depend on the tester. I've heard a million different opinions on wipers and MOTs. You'll probably get another million on this thread alone.
Best bet is to phone up the local garage you use for MOTs and ask them. They'll tell you and you can act accordingly.

The rear washer doesn't need to work to pass an MOT, just the front. I am just hoping that if I tell them about the reversal it won't matter HOW the front washer works, just that it works.

It should be fine, just let the tester know which is the control for the front washers.

Tell the tester which button is washer.
If the washer works then problem solved. They can't fail it because the button has been moved. Often people rewire horns and screw a switch to the dash if the steering wheel switch is faulty. Works and pass

Given its not a testable item I'd hope you'd never see one doing it.

  • Make the tester aware of it, and it will pass.

Just in case anyone is curious, I can confirm it did in fact pass.
