Switching suppliers newbie

Hi this might be a bit of a stupid question but when I switch energy suppliers (never done it before), do I need to contact my current energy supplier to cancel it or will the new supplier do it.
I'm currently with Utility warehouse and am looking to change to Iresa which is looking like it could save me around£240 a year.

Hi welcome to the forum. Your new supplier will do everything. All you need to do is provide meter readings when requested. These will be verified by a third party and passed back to both suppliers to open and close your accounts. Switching can take up to 35 days. It can then take up to 6 weeks for you to get a Final Bill. Any concerns then post again.

when smart meters are completed , this sort of ridiculous situation will not exist. Switching will be pain and stress free and no more energy advice needed from the "advisor " on here.. Maybe that is why Hengus is a rabid anti smart..its doing him out of his hobby being the oracle on here.
