Relocating to Derby or Midlands

Hi All
Looking for some advice and help
I am currently living with my partner in Slough London in a house share. She is now pregnant 5 months so we need to move out.
We are able to get a mortgage for 100k which can't even buy a 1 bed around here.
After looking at the maps we are thinking about relocating to Derby as can get a good 2/3 bedroom house for that. We did consider Birmingham Nottingham Coventry and Leicester but it seems on our budget we would end up in some bad areas which we don't want.
I will need to travel to Slough Monday-Thursday for work but fortune that it won't be at peak times as working as work from midday to 9pm.
Is there anyone from Derby that could advise what areas are good and abit more information about the city or any other place that we should consider aside from Derby located in the Midlands.
Thank you

You will find somewhere further south with the right advice.
I would prioritise using the M40 for your commute. It is an infinitely easier motorway to drive than the M1. I've been driving it for 16 years and it runs pretty well - in fact, it's brilliant out of peak tmes.
I know a few lovely people who live in Halesowen. There might be some stuff in your sort of bracket. Like this, perhaps:

It's plenty close to Birmingham for shops and culture but it really isn't inner city and is close to countryside.
There will be places slightly to the west of the M5 around junctions 3-1. Possibly even to the east, around Oldbury.
I'm sure there will be areas of Coventry too and that would cut your commute even more.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I am not convinced that you would get a good location anywhere for 100K unless you were prepared to move to somewhere like Newcastle. Houses get cheaper the further they are from London. They are cheapest where commuting to London is too expensive or takes too long.0

I know you want to buy but would you consider renting? Moving out of london you would probably get a 2 bed house for what you pay for a house share? Also you will definitely get this sorted before your partner gives birth wheras with buying it might drag on longer than 4 months!
Also is the 100k property including what you could get with help to buy?Preparing to go bankrupt April 20200 -
Hubby is from Derby. He says avoid Chaddesden and Normanton. But he's not lived there for a while! Littleover isn't too bad. Alvaston is OK ish. Mickleover is "all right".0

We moved to the Alvaston area of Derby 18 months ago. Lavendyr is correct; it's okay, depending which part of Alvaston you're in. And avoid Chaddesden and Normanton! Where we are, on the Alvaston/Allenton border, is fine, but some other areas are a bit iffy! Allenton is another one to avoid. You really want a local to give you a hand with location if you want to go for Derby, but you can certainly get a 2/3 bed home for 100K here! Like any city it has its issues but in general we've seen an improvement since we moved here, in both crime and shopping facilities, although the local council appear to be screwing up other local facilities!0

Hi there I am Derby born and bred. The nicest suburbs here at chellaston, heatherton, littleover, Mickleover, Darley Abbey and Allestree. However you won't get much for 100grand there.
Places like Breadsall Hilltop, Alvaston, city centre, mackworth, sunnyhill, singing and oakwood have nice parts in them.
I would strongly avoid normanton, allenton, and arboretum. Please let me know if you need any further advice and I will be happy to help.0 -

You are right 100k will not get you anything decent in a reasonable area in Nottingham itself. I don't know much about Derby but have you considered Long Eaton, it's on the main line to London. Long Eaton is a large area with a lot of mixed housing, some good and some not so good parts, you should be able to get something that needs a bit of work or liveable condition in a reasonable part of Long Eaton for your budget. Or try Sawley which is next to Long Eaton.
I live in Nottingham not Long Eaton but here's a few ideas (sorry I am not 100% sure on whether the particular area for each of these is "nice" or not so nice)

Detached for 110 although not especially glamorous:

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-63538652.html
etc etc there are loads like these around the area and some of these have been on for a long time so will be open to offer.
You could also try Beeston although you will be struggling to get something good for your budget although you might get something mid terraced that needs work for 100k. Beeston is also on the main line to London.
Chilwell is also a reasonable area (just north-ish) from Long Eaton but is not near train stations so you would have to consider that as well for travel times.0 -
