Hello
We are about to employ someone through PAYE. They are currently employed elsewhere but will be reducing their hours down (effectively a 0 hours contract) in case of any adhoc work they need him for (college lecturer, may still be used for invigilting exams etc).
However, on the new starter check list he is having to put he already has a job and so our empoyment will be a 2nd job. Therefore HMRC are suggesting we allocate a BR taxcode.
how do we/he go about swithing the job so that ours is his main job (with personal allowances etc) and the other job is his 2nd one at BR?
Hope you can help

The employee will have to tell HMRC that your their main employer then HMRC will update you with the new tax code.0

Yes, I agree with Suarez.
It is neither your position nor responsibilty to change this.
Your responsibilty is to deduct tax in accordance with the appropriate notifications you receive from HMRC.
To assist your new employee, you can make him aware of the situation, and if he so desire, for him to contact HMRC who are the only ones who can change things.
The new employee needs to explain to HMRC how they wish their personal allowance to be split between the two employments (presumably, in this intance, all being allocated to this new job).
Any change agreed by HMRC will be notified to you by them (but without reason)
If the new employee does not do this, then any overpayment (or underpayment) of tax will be accounted for after the end of the tax year (by HMRC, not you).0
