BT is hiking prices for its broadband and TV customers to pay for better compensation and more UK call centres for customers who receive poor service.
The telecoms giant will use the money to pilot "proactive" compensation for customers who are affected if the company fails to meet service targets.
This could mean giving automatic refunds to customers whose broadband doesn't work or who experience delays in having their internet set up.
The firm has also pledged that customers who experienced problems would be able to speak to someone in a British call centre, with 90 per cent of calls now answered in the UK and Ireland.
Customers will get free defence against nuisance calls and some would also be eligible for an upgrade to fibre optic broadband for the price of standard copper broadband.
It has also promised to fix customers' broken internet more quickly. Customers who lose access to the internet are now having their line repaired up to 31 hours more quickly than in June last year.
The price of BT's broadband packages will increase by £2 a month, and its fibre internet packages will increase by £2.50 a month.
The provider also hiked its prices last year, increasing prices for copper broadband customers by £2 a month, and prices for fibre optic customers by £3 per month.
This will increase the price of typical bundles by 5 to 7 per cent, significantly ahead of inflation, which is at 1.6 per cent according to the consumer price index. The cost of its internet packages will also rise by up to £30 a year from April.
John Petter, chief executive of BT Consumer, said: "Customers will get a better package and improved service this year in exchange for paying a little more."

Think EE must have implemented these things at the end of last year
UK/Ireland call centres.
I phoned up last week because the phone and BB were dead.
When line tested, he thought it was a serious fault and I got a £10 credit without asking/moaning
About 15 mins later it was working again. (think it was an exchange fault)0 -
This already covers this price hike, the mods might want to combine the threads.
