Any advice - minimum floor to ceiling height for a loft conversion?

We're getting a loft conversion and have a chance to add a small 'pod' room to use as a study, on the cheap. Ceiling height will be an issue, seems unlikely to be much higher than 1.9m, could be less. What do others reckon is the minimum viable height for a usable study/spare room, both from a usage perspective and, one day, selling up and hoping to get our money back? Cheers

Are you putting in a fixed staircase and getting building regs to sign off on it being a habitable room? If so, the size of the room may not be worth the cost (can you extend instead?)

If you are doing it on the cheap i wouldn't worry about ceiling height as long as the 'average' person can stand up in it. A new buyer may only use it for storage...

In practical terms 2100 would be the minimum. My recollection is this is in Velux guidelines or elsewhere. Regardless it is the lintel height for internal doors. Accepted the doors will be smaller to fit in here so you could argue 6 feet 6 inches minimum headroom.
  • Fixed stairs the crucial measurement is 2.0m top of stairs height some might let you get away with 1.9? Even if you cant get these heights (Top of stairs )this can sort of be manipulated with landings), once you walk into room no legal minimum ceiling height, As to what others would like in heights and what is practical are to an extent sellers and buyers preference what the rooms used for etc if you 4ft tall and so is a potential buyer do you need a 7ft ceiling ?
  • Sorry not to contribute to this thread OP, just have a question. Are you getting stairs fitted for your loft and if so, how much is the total project costing?

Sorry, I don't know the very fine details, wife is mostly leading. I think minimal change stairs-wise, since we already have a room up there, just a rubbishy one with sloping ceilings such that you can only really stand up in the middle.

Total cost we're very unsure about. I think maybe £40k but I couldn't tell you exactly what this includes.
