I have an Animal Friends insurance policy, time limited and it states it covers up to £1000 per annum per condition. Excess £99. My puppy needs to get allergy tests done, no sign of this condition occurred before I took out the policy. The vet has estimated £808 for the blood/skin tests. I wanted to get a pre approval from the insurance prior to the tests. They said because it was under £1000 they couldn't authorise a pre approval. But they said they "may" subject to review still cover the tests, post testing and when I submit the end claim.. It's a risk, to do the tests first. But any advice or reassurance they will cover the tests? So hard going ahead without that confirmation. Simply because to get pre approval the tests claim must be over £1000 to pre approve ?

The pre approval is not for your benefit. It is to protect themselves from excessive claims.
All companies review a claim before paying out so that is normal.
The only problem would be that they consider any of the tests that the vet does as unnecessary.0 -
Ring around a few other local vets £800 is a hell of a lot for simple allergy testing, blood tests can be up to £200 and skin tests are usually cheaper. A few of my foster dogs have had it done at a number of different vets and it has only been around the £300 mark for everything including consult, some of them less than £200.0

True, it's the only vet in the area that do intradermal skin tests. The others only send blood work and don't do skin scraping etc, im in the south east so do get charged a lot more than other areas.
I've been quoted for ;
Day hospitalisation
Sedation
Skin scrapes and cytology
Skin tape impressions and cytology
Skin biopsy and histopathology
Hair plucking and dermatophyte culture
Skin swab for bacterial culture and sensitvity
Intradermal injections testing for atopy
Bloods: IGG tests screening for atopy (completes the intradermal tests) and Thyroid function
Is this about right, other vets said 400-600£ but that was just blood works?0
