Bought something online a year ago and is now faulty!

Hello all,

LONG time lurker here and this is my first post. :)

I purchased a table from Made.com in Sept 2015 and it was delivered in December 2016.

The table is now cracking at joints etc... so we sent an email to Made.com explaining the situation.

They have replied, apologised for the issues and have offered to replace the table (picking up the old one at the same time).

I would prefer not to have the table replaced but instead have a refund as I reckon we would have the same issues with the replacement.

My question is; are we entitled to a refund? Or even store credit? Or are the company already doing as much as they are required to by replacing the faulty item?

  • No, you're not entitled to a refund. The seller is honouring your rights under consumer law by offering to replace.

    If the replacement develops a similar fault then you may have an argument for pressing for a refund or credit towards an alternative but what evidence do you have that the new one will develop the same fault?

    I would be happy that Made has offered to replace without any fuss. Considering how bad some retailers can be I would call this a good result.
  • There wouldn't be any harm in asking if they would consider allowing you to choose a different table and paying the difference (if any).
    Provided that you ask politely, the worst that will happen is that refuse your request.

    I presume you mean Dec 2015.
