Home insurance - how late can you claim?

Any voices of experience there?
About 10 months ago I suffered a washing machine leaking incident which resulted in (over several weeks) water seeping under the kitchen tiles and hall floorboards before I realised what had happend. It was only about 3 months later that the damage to the hall floorboards became obvious (as they continued to warp and raise) and it's only in the last couple of weeks that I've realised the impact in the kitchen too (there's now a dip in the floor at one end).
I have only just realised that this would have been covered under my insurance (just got my documents out as mortgage renewal due) - is it likely that I can still make a successful claim even tho the original event was so long ago?
I've never had cause to make a claim before and have had both mortgage and insurance through Nationwide for the whole of that time. I've looked through the booklet and it doesn't give any hard and fast rules about delays before claiming.
Any advice would be great! (before I get my hopes up!)
Thanks.

It's good that you are still insured with the same insurer as otherwise things would get more complicated.
You should probably have notified them quite a long time ago that there was some damage and they would then have been more likely to accept that subsequent board rising was related to the original incident.
All you can do is ring them and notify the claim and see what they say.0
