Leasehold management companies

Has anyone had any dealings with Home Ground Management re letters after three years in a new house demanding payment of leasehold charges within a few weeks, amounting to hundreds of pounds! There is no telephone number to contact them. I have sent 5 emails and completed 2 forms on their website, but in 10 days I have had no contact from them, and the latest letter says they will charge me £45 for every letter they send!!!! Help!!!:mad:

Are you trying to contact them because you think that you don't owe them the money?

Or is it that you're just unhappy that they are collecting the last 3 years of ground rent (and perhaps other charges) in one go?

If it's the latter, you don't really have any grounds for withholding payment. Which is perhaps why they don't want to get into a discussion/argument with you about it.

Have you read you lease to find out what the service/maintenace charges are & how often they should be paid? That should be your first port of call.

I would never rely on email to send messages I feel are important & will always put things in writing & post. If sent by recorded delivery you then have a signature that confirms the letter was received on a certain date at their offices.

You might possibly find these people helpful. https://www.lease-advice.org/ It's a government funded agency offering help & advice to residential leaseholders.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
  • Thanks. There are no service or maintenance charges, it's just ground rent. When I bought the property I had to pay a year in advance, then didn't hear anything more until now. The builder, Redrow, have sold on the liability for collecting lease charges to Home Ground, but they have only just contacted homeowners and are demanding the charges for last year and next year by 22nd February, which I think is a little unfair. I will ignore the reply from the eddddy as he has obviously misinterpreted what I have asked.

I will look at the information via the link you suggest....many thanks.:D

Ummm... I guess you mean it wasn't what you wanted to hear.

(I bet you wouldn't be complaining if my 'misinterpreted' answer was that the law says you don't have to pay your ground rent, and you are due compensation from the management co for them even suggesting that you should pay your debt. But, unfortunately, that's not the case.)
