New Sewage treatment plant help

Hi Everyone,

We have a failed septic tank and need to replace it. We want to replace it with a sewage treatment system, does anyone have any experience, there seems to be a lot of different systems on the market!

Also, we live in Colchester, does anyone know of someone good to use to install it?

Thanks in advance, Sarah

Sadly I can't help as I haven't even started to find out yet but we're going to have to replace our septic tank in the near future so I will keep an eye with interest.

Our tank was installed 100+ years ago but would never be permitted now in current location but as it's under the cr*p slab of a cr*p garage that all needs replacing, it's not going to survive :(
  • We've had a couple of companies out to quote for the work, the research we did was a bit confusing, they all seem to be quite similar. The Klargester Biodisc and the Rewatec SOLIDO are the only silent running ones, this was confirmed by one installer, they seemed really good and knowledgable. We had a general builder who was less experienced, he seemed to suggest it was really easy and he had put lots in but had no real evidence or could offer any aftercare which we felt was important.

I would certainly suggest getting a few quotes, we are also a bit warey of the cheaper systems. We noticed that while they all have to be tested, the test they do doesn't say anything about quality of components, noise, sludge removal etc.

You will certainly become a bit of an expert on poo by the time you've installed a new one!

One thing that was really important to us was the downtime between the old and the new system but they are able to put the new one next to the old and divert the pipe so there is no downtime.

It's quite an expense but for us, we will be here for the next 30-40 years so it has to be right.

Good luck with you garage replacement!

I can't offer any advice on the thread subject but I would ask if your user name is your real name.

If it is then I suggest that you change it to something anonymous.

It is generally not advisable to use a real name on a public forum, especially when you have also revealed your location.

The risk is small but there are a lot of oddballs around and the last thing you want is being stalked by a scatological screwball.

Your posts on here may also come up in google searches looking for the Girls Aloud singer of the same name. (Perhaps you are her)

Contact admin to change your user name. They don't normally allow that but in this case they will.

PS: I have just googled your user name and your town and this thread is the first result. I won't write down the search or give the link as that would also reveal your details but try it yourself. Google for your user name as it is written with no space, followed by your town.

I can only tell you what we have, which is a Klargester biodisc. It's about 15 years old and we have had lots of problems with it. Mainly with the belt snapping. Finally our engineer changed the whole lot for a chain driven motor. Since then we haven't had any problems. Ours is shared with 3 other houses and we have to empty 3 times a year.
If you get one look at the chain driven ones, rather than belt.

There is a company in Birmingham that sell the Klargesters but they also fit using their own guys and not subbing builders which is where things go wrong. I think they do a call out or maintenance contract but don't quote me on it. We buy land drain from them.

Say Matt from down the road gave you the number ask for joe or Luke.
