Buying a house: Allocated Parking

    If the allocated parking is part of the deeds for a particular house it will be shown in with the plot number. So if you are looking at plot 5 and there are two specific parking spaces allocated to that house then plot number 5 would appear on them. That doesn't appear to be the case here so it looks as if there are no specific parking spaces allocated to each house in which case any resident can park in any space. What you need to consider is what you are going to do if one of your neighbours has 3 cars and parks one of them in one of your spaces.

    It's a case of politely enforcing your right to those spaces (if they are indeed yours). If you get bother use cones or your wheelie bins (with your house number on) if necessary. Make sure you occupy your spaces as often as possible so that no-one gets into the habit of borrowing them.

    Be wary of thinking you can take a fence panel down - there could be rules that say you must keep them as provided for a certain number of years. Besides, the privacy is a good thing to have.

    On my screen, plot numbers or visitor parking is shown on the different spaces, but the printing is very small.

    More worrying, a large part of Plot 5's garden seems to be under the canopy of two retained mature trees, neither of which grows from within the boundary of Plot 5.
  • My 2 bed new build came with 2 allocated parking spaces to the side of the house.After I moved in some bloke with a flatbed and a big drum of white paint came round and helpfully placed my house number on the spaces,he was either from the council or the builders(can't remember now).Consequently I have never yet had a problem with anyone using my spare(only got one car) in the three years I've lived here.

    From top to bottom, the writting on the parking appears to be:

    Plot 5 Parking
    Plot 3 or 5 Parking - cant quite make it out.*
    Plot 1 Parking
    Visitor Parking
    Visitor Parking
    Plot 1 Parking
    Plot ?? Parking

    * if the above is 3, that would appear to give Plot Three, 3 parking spaces, two as a driveway and 1 on the left.

    Plot 2 only seems to have one space - and as the same build as the OP's, seems odd.
  • We live on a road with allocated parking - 14 houses and 20 spaces. Each house has one allocated space, which is included on the deeds and has the house number painted on it. There is very little trouble with the allocated spaces (possibly because I've seen people just park in front of their space if someone is already in it!) but the visitors spaces are ridiculous. People park up and use it as free parking for the local train/tube stations, shops and restaurants. And at least one other house has multiple cars and has decided one of the visitors bays is theirs.

    I would still buy with allocated parking (this is London, and we are not exactly rich) but only if the individual spaces were marked. I assume it's harder to claim ignorance if there is clear evidence that the space belongs to someone.

    I don't see how you would get a car in, if you removed the fence panel, as it looks like you'd have to drive over the parking space to get to it, which you wouldn't be able to do if a car is parked there.

    True, I think that is what the expensive developers refer to as tandem parking these days. Same as people who have a right drive for two cars.

    They make these things so small, it is a nightmare.
    You were almost there but it is not Plot 3, it was Plot 5. So it is:
    Plot 5 Parking
    Plot 5 Parking
    Visitor Parking
    Visitor Parking
    Plot 1 Parking
    Plot 4 Parking

    The plot I am interested in is 5 and the one next door is plot 2. They have one parking space next to the house and then one next to the two plot 5 spaces.

    You have identified something which is a real cause for concern for me, so much so, I actually started up another thread about the trees. Have been trying to ascertain if the trees have any orders on them, but the council have been useless in getting back to me.

    From what I understand, I would only be allowed to clip the branches back that overhang into my property?
