Reappearing debt?

Hi, I have a very old debt from around the early 00's that passed to a debt collection company and I've been making regular payments for the last eight years or so. For most of that time I haven't been paying much per month. The debt is no longer on my credit file.
I have about £1800 left to pay, and they have contacted me a couple of times to offer a reduced payment for a partially settled account.
I am currently in a position where I could maybe pay this, but my question is will partially settling the account cause the debt to reappear on my credit file?
Thanks

No it won't go back on your file. If they went for a CCJ that would appear on your file so unless they are threatening you with that your fine.

You can always negotiate them down. If they offered you 1600, reply that while you would love to get this done and over, all you can do is 1400. For them it's still a win on such old account, and having to go to courts would take a lot more than the difference.

Once a debt has left your credit file, it can never come back.

If, it did, you would have grounds for it to be removed.

  • Yeah, to be honest the amount to be paid is of less concern than it suddenly showing up on my credit file as I'm hoping to be looking at buying a house in the near future.
If it suddenly showed up as only partially settled rather than fully settled, I don't think lenders would look upon it too favourably.
  • Thank you for the replies. Much appreciated.
