Hi all, my car insurance iis due for renewal and I want to do the usual price comparisons. Do these comparison searches show up as hard or soft searches on your credit file? I am in the process of improving my credit score and I don't want a lot of searches to negatively affect it.
Thank you in advance

You'll find your answer by reading their respective privacy statements (almost always at the bottom of the page). Here's a typical privacy statement excerpt...gocompare wrote:Our insurance partners will use your personal data to assess and rate your cover prior to issuing a quotation to you via our website or when you purchase a policy from them. Some of our insurance partners may search external sources (e.g. the edited electoral roll, county court judgments, bankruptcy registers) to assess your application for accuracy.
Searches of this kind may be recorded by credit agencies but they won't affect your credit rating.

You might find if you check your credit reports monthly (i.e. Clearscore or Noddle) some car insurance companies will perform soft searches quite often.
Doesn't affect your credit history in anyway but if you see a slew of them on there, that's why. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -

What, precisely, do they get to see when carrying out a so-called "soft search"?0 -

Your guess is as good as mine!
Some of the car insurance companies who've performed soft searches have always been out of my price range so why they continue to keep on looking :rotfl:It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history.
